I started my beaded quilt blocks to represent the women from my mother’s side of the family, for they are all quilters. Continuing in the tradition, I wanted to figure out a way, to not only make it both modern but make it my own. A quilt consists of the top layer being constructed out of many different fabrics stitched together to form a design. Here, I have replicated the top layer of fabric with designs made out of seed beads. Each bead is hand sewn onto the backing fabric mimicking the amount of sewing that goes into a quilt. I started this piece by using a pre-existing quilt block pattern, and then made my own design to make it look like fabric.
